Tracy Fulton
Environmental Sustainability Projects Officer, City of Onkaparinga
How many people can actually say that they are in their dream job? Well, it turns out I can! My role is all about community and corporate environmental behaviour change and I get to spend the majority of my time, helping locals reduce their impact on the environment through helpful advice while developing some very cool projects that range from the impacts of balloons to making nature creations in a wetland.
Things I love - I’m most proud of my work to create the ‘Sustainable Onkaparinga’ brand to ensure that Council’s environmental initiatives are given a higher profile, our quarterly e-newsletter to ensure residents can keep up to date on the latest news and programs, a program of workshops and events held throughout the year, and the opportunity to speak to residents in person at Ask Me, I’m Green sessions held across the region at libraries and Shopping Centres. So make sure you say hi if you see me!
Things I hate – people that think it’s OK to ‘green’ shame others (not cool!) and the best way to turn someone off making a change. My approach to education is more along the lines of ‘nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something’!
When I’m not at work, you’ll find me down the beach, whether its summer or winter, it’s my happy place. I also love volunteering in my spare time to keep an eye on the oceans and sea critters, through SECCHI water turbidity monitoring at Pt Noarlunga jetty and Reefwatch intertidal monitoring.
